Every document upload has a size limit

Government application portals cap the size of every upload. That covers the photo and signature, and also your 10th and 12th marksheets, degree certificates, and caste, EWS, PwBD or domicile certificates. Limits are commonly 100 to 500 KB per file. A phone photo of a marksheet is often 2 to 5 MB, so it has to be compressed before the portal will take it.

Why grayscale helps for scanned documents

On a typed marksheet or certificate, black text reads the same in grayscale, and the file often shrinks by more than half. Turn on the grayscale option for text documents and leave it off for your colour passport photo.

Can I compress an image to exactly 50 KB or 100 KB?
Yes. Choose a target (20, 50, 100, 200, 500 KB or 1 MB) and the tool finds the highest JPG quality that fits just under it, so you keep as much detail as possible.
Does it work for scanned marksheets and certificates?
Yes. For scanned documents the grayscale option usually cuts the file size sharply and the text stays readable, which helps when a portal caps certificate uploads at a small KB limit.
Will compressing change my image dimensions?
Only if it has to. The tool lowers the quality first and steps the resolution down only when it cannot reach the target size any other way.
Is my image uploaded anywhere?
No. Compression runs in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, stored or logged.
