Fee deducted, but no Confirmation Page: what to do next

Quick answer

A debit in your bank account doesn't prove the fee reached the exam body. NTA says so in its NEET bulletin, and only the Confirmation Page counts. Log in again and check the payment status. If NTA shows anything other than "OK" or "Success", the transaction counts as cancelled, and money taken in a failed transaction may come back on its own through the same bank or app. Call the bank or payment gateway helpline listed in the bulletin, then the NTA helpline. If it is still not fixed, NTA lets you pay a second time and refunds the duplicate after the result. On SSC, open the "Payment Status" link: a form whose fee hasn't reached SSC shows "Incomplete" and is rejected. Do all of this before the fee deadline.

Is this kit for you?

Use this kit if
  • You paid the application fee, money left your account, and no Confirmation Page appeared. (p.18)
  • Your SSC form printout says "Incomplete" at the top, or the Payment Status link shows the fee as not received. (CGL para 10.5, p.20)
  • The payment page said failed or timed out, and you don't know whether to pay again. (p.18)
Check first
  • What time does fee payment close? It can be later than the form deadline. In NEET (UG) 2026 the form closed on 08 March at 9:00 PM and fee payment at 11:50 PM the same night. In SSC CGL 2026 the form closed on 22.06.2026 and the fee on 23.06.2026 at 23:00. (p.2; CGL p.1, para 10.4, p.20)
  • Do you have the transaction details? Keep the bank SMS, the UPI or card reference number, the date and time, the amount, and your Application or Registration Number ready before you call anyone. (Appendix-VIII, p.93)
Skip this kit if
  • Your Confirmation Page or printout has already been generated and the status says paid. The fee reached them; save the page and move on. (p.18)
  • You want to change a detail in a form you have already paid for. That waits for the correction window; see our first government form kit. (p.9 para 16; CGL para 11.1, p.20)

What to do, and by when

  1. 1Right after paying
Status should say "OK" or "Success" and the Confirmation Page should open
  2. 2Status not OK
Transaction counts as cancelled; a deducted amount may come back through the same bank or app
  3. 3Still missing
Bank or payment gateway helpline first, then the NTA helpline
  4. 4Fee last date
    NEET (UG) 2026: 08 March, 11:50 PM. SSC CGL 2026: 23.06.2026, 23:00
  5. 5After the result
NTA refunds a duplicate payment through the mode it came from
From the NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin and the SSC CGL 2026 notice (p.18; p.18; Appendix-VIII, pp.93-94; p.2; CGL para 10.4, p.20).

The steps, in order

  1. 1

Don't close anything, and save what you can see

Have ready: Your phone, to screenshot the payment page and keep the bank SMS.

Screenshot the payment result page, the bank or UPI message and the transaction reference. NTA says the deduction alone is not proof of payment, so you will need these for the bank and the helpline. (p.18)

  2. 2

Log in again and read the payment status

Have ready: Your Application Number (NTA) or Registration Number (SSC) and password.

On NTA sites the status must say "OK" or "Success", and the Confirmation Page is generated only after a successful payment. On SSC, open the "Payment Status" link in your login. A form whose fee hasn't reached SSC shows "Incomplete" at the top of its printout. (p.18; p.9 para 18; CGL para 10.5, p.20)

  3. 3

If NTA shows any other status, treat the payment as cancelled

Have ready: The bank SMS showing the deduction.

NTA counts a card payment whose status is not OK or Success as cancelled and tells you to pay again. Money deducted in a failed transaction "may automatically be refunded" through the same bank, gateway or payment mode. (p.18)

  4. 4

Call the bank or payment gateway helpline first

Have ready: The transaction reference, date, time and amount.

NTA bulletins list a helpline and email for each bank and gateway in an appendix (Appendix-VIII in NEET 2026, the payment appendix in JEE Main 2026). Use the one for the gateway you paid through, and ask them to confirm whether the payment succeeded. (p.18; Appendix-VIII, p.93; JEE bulletin pp.3, 40)

  5. 5

Then call the exam body's helpline

Have ready: Your Application or Registration Number and the transaction reference.

If the bank shows a successful transaction but the portal still doesn't, contact the NTA helpline (NEET 2026: 011-40759000, or the email given in Appendix-VIII). For SSC, the notice lists the toll-free Help Desk, 1800 309 3063, for questions about filling and submitting forms. (p.18; Appendix-VIII, p.94; CGL Important Instructions (aa), p.54)

  6. 6

Pay again before the fee deadline if it is still unresolved

Have ready: A different card, UPI app or bank if the first one failed, with balance.

NTA says that if the issue is still not resolved, you may pay a second time. It refunds any duplicate payment through the same mode after the result and fee reconciliation. Do it before the fee window closes, because SSC rejects unpaid forms and won't take payment after the notice's deadline. (p.18; CGL para 10.5, p.20)

  7. 7

Save the Confirmation Page with the proof of fee

Have ready: A folder on your phone and access to a printer.

NTA asks you to keep enough hard copies of the Confirmation Page together with proof of the fee paid. Keep the screenshots from the failed attempt as well, in case a duplicate refund needs following up after the result. (p.9 para 11)

Why the bank SMS isn't enough

NTA writes that "mere deduction of fee from the bank account is not proof of fee payment". The Confirmation Page is the proof that the form was submitted. If it hasn't been generated, the form hasn't been submitted. (p.18)

The final submission stays incomplete until the payment step is done, and NTA rejects such forms without further correspondence. (p.18)

Why the amount doesn't match the fee

NTA adds the bank or gateway's processing charge and GST on top of the exam fee, so the debit can be a little more than the fee in the bulletin. In NEET (UG) 2026 the GST on those charges was 18%. (p.9 para 17; Appendix-VIII, p.93)

How a paid form still gets rejected

Every line below comes from NTA's or SSC's own rules.

  • The fee never reached SSC. The form stays "Incomplete" and is summarily rejected, and requests to pay after the notice's deadline are not taken. (CGL para 10.5, p.20)
  • The payment step wasn't completed on an NTA form. The form stays incomplete and is rejected, and NTA won't enter into correspondence about it. (p.18)
  • Relying on the bank debit. NTA doesn't accept a deduction as proof; only a successful status and the Confirmation Page count. (p.18)
  • Missing the correction window. SSC lets only candidates whose completed form and fee were received correct their form. (CGL para 11.3, p.20)
  • Filling a second form to get around the problem. SSC rejects all of a candidate's forms when it finds more than one, and NTA treats it as unfair means. Pay again on the same form instead. (CGL Important Instructions (j), pp.50-51; JEE bulletin p.3)

NTA and SSC handle it differently

If you areWhat changes
NTA exams (NEET, JEE Main, CUET)Proof is the Confirmation Page and an "OK" or "Success" status. Bank or gateway helpline first, then NTA. If still unresolved, you may pay a second time; NTA refunds the duplicate after the result. (p.18; JEE bulletin p.5)
SSC examsCheck the "Payment Status" link; an unpaid form shows "Incomplete" on its printout and is rejected. The notice says nothing about refunds for double payments, and the fee itself is never refunded, so call the Help Desk before paying twice. (CGL paras 10.5-10.6, p.20; Important Instructions (aa), p.54)
SSC correction chargesThe same rule applies in the correction window. If the correction charge doesn't reach SSC, the corrected form shows "Incomplete" and is not accepted, but your earlier form stays valid. (CGL para 11.8, p.21)

Tips and tricks

  1. 1Pay a day or two before the fee deadline. A failed payment then still leaves time for the bank, the helpline and a second payment.
  2. 2If one card or UPI app keeps failing, try a different one for the second attempt instead of the same one again.
  3. 3Write down the time and amount of each attempt. With two attempts a few minutes apart, it is easy to quote the wrong reference to the helpline.
  4. 4Don't start a fresh registration to get around a stuck payment. SSC rejects all your forms when it finds two, and NTA treats it as unfair means.
  5. 5Log in and check the status once more just before you pay a second time, so you don't pay for an attempt that has already gone through.

Frequently asked questions

Money was deducted but the Confirmation Page didn't open. Has my form been submitted?
Not by NTA's rules. The NEET (UG) 2026 bulletin says a deduction from your bank account is not proof of payment and that the Confirmation Page is the proof of a submitted form (p.18). Log in again and check the status first.
Will I get the deducted money back if the payment failed?
NTA says money deducted in a failed transaction "may automatically be refunded" through the same bank, gateway or payment mode (NEET 2026 bulletin, p.18). If it doesn't come back, take it up with the bank or gateway helpline listed in the bulletin.
Can I pay the fee again? Will I lose the first payment?
On NTA exams, yes. If the bank and NTA helplines can't fix it, you may pay a second time, and NTA refunds the duplicate through the same mode after the result and fee reconciliation (NEET 2026 bulletin, p.18). The SSC CGL 2026 notice doesn't cover double payments and says the fee is never refunded (para 10.6, p.20), so call the SSC Help Desk on 1800 309 3063 first.
My SSC form says "Incomplete". What does that mean?
It means SSC hasn't received the fee. The word is printed at the top of the form printout, and you can check it through the "Payment Status" link in your login. If it stays unpaid past the fee deadline, the form is summarily rejected (CGL 2026 notice, para 10.5, p.20).
Why was more than the fee taken from my account?
NTA adds the bank or gateway's processing charge and GST on top of the exam fee (NEET 2026 bulletin, p.9 para 17). The GST on those charges was 18% in NEET 2026 (Appendix-VIII, p.93).
Who do I call first, the bank or NTA?
The bank or payment gateway, using the helpline and email in the bulletin's payment appendix. NTA asks you to go to the NTA helpline if a successful transaction still doesn't show on the portal (NEET 2026 bulletin, p.18; Appendix-VIII, p.94).
