Image dimensions are not valid: how to fix it

Quick answer

The form checked the width and height of your picture in pixels, and they did not match what it expects. Pick your exam and the document in the tool, then drop the file. You get it back cropped to the exam's shape and saved as a JPG at its exact pixel size, inside the KB range.

The tool runs in your browser and nothing is uploaded. Updated 2 November 2026.

What "Image dimensions are not valid" means

Dimensions are the width and height in pixels, not the file size in KB. A photo can be 30 KB and still be refused because it is 400 x 500 pixels when the form wants 200 x 230.

In our exam data the bank and insurance forms (IBPS, SBI, RBI, LIC, NICL) ask for a 200 x 230 pixel photo and a 140 x 60 pixel signature, and TNPSC Group IV asks for a 130 x 170 photo. A phone photo is thousands of pixels wide, so it won't match until you resize it.

Why it happens

  • You uploaded the photo straight from the phone camera, which is thousands of pixels wide.
  • The photo was brought down to the right KB but not to the right pixels.
  • Width and height are swapped: a 230 x 200 picture is landscape, while the form wants a portrait 200 x 230.
  • The signature was cut out as a tall or square crop, while the form wants a wide strip such as 140 x 60.

Exams that ask for these pixel sizes

Tips

  • Check the order of the numbers. This site writes width first, so 200 x 230 is 200 wide and 230 tall; check how your notice labels them.
  • Crop to the exam's shape before you shrink. If you squeeze a square photo into 200 x 230, the face looks stretched.
  • Phone gallery apps often show the size in MB only. To see the pixels, open the file's details or info screen.
  • Do not send the finished file to yourself on WhatsApp. WhatsApp shrinks images, which changes the pixels again.

Other upload errors

Rejected for something other than size? See photo rejected and signature rejected. Only need the file smaller? Use compress to KB.

Frequently asked questions

What is the difference between image dimensions and file size?
Dimensions are the width and height in pixels, such as 200 x 230. File size is how many KB the file takes, such as 20 to 50 KB. A form can check both, and the tool sets both together.
My photo is 200 x 230 and the form still says the dimensions are not valid. Why?
Check that it is not 230 x 200, and that your exam really asks for 200 x 230; UPSC and railway forms use other sizes. Making the file again in the tool for your exam sets the right pixels.
Is my photo or signature uploaded to your server?
No. The resizing runs in your browser on your own phone or computer. The file is never sent anywhere, and closing the tab removes it.
