What "self-attested" means
Most government job and exam applications ask for self-attested copies. These are photocopies or scans you verify yourself by writing "Self-Attested", signing and dating them, instead of getting them stamped by a gazetted officer. How to self-attest a document by hand
- 1Take a clear photocopy or printout of the document.
- 2In an empty area near the bottom, write "Self-Attested". Some forms ask for "Certified true copy" instead; if they name the wording, use theirs.
- 3Sign below it with the same signature you use on the form.
- 4Add the date, and your name if the notice asks for it.
- 5Scan it. If the portal has a size limit, compress the scan to fit.

- What does self-attesting a document mean?
- Writing "Self-Attested" with your signature (and usually the date) on a photocopy or scan to certify it yourself. Many Indian government applications accept this in place of gazetted attestation. This tool places that text and your signature image onto the scan.
