The bank recruitment notices use 500 KB for PDF documents. IBPS PO/MT-XVI asks for the 10th certificate and other certificates as A4 PDFs no larger than 500 KB, and SBI specialist officer advertisements say every document except the photo and signature must be a PDF within the same limit.

Both notices suggest lowering the scanner DPI or the number of colours when a file comes out larger. This compressor does the same thing after the scan: it re-renders each page at a lower resolution and JPG quality until the PDF is under 500 KB, which leaves room for four or five clear pages.

Tips for this size

IBPS and SBI both ask for A4 pages. Scan or photograph the whole page and crop to its edges, not to the text, so the PDF keeps the A4 shape.
The IBPS notice suggests scanning at a minimum of 200 dpi. Start from a 200 dpi scan; a 600 dpi scan only means more compressing to reach 500 KB.
Railway recruitment uses 400 KB for its documents, not 500. For an RRB form, type 400 into the KB box instead.
Keep grayscale off for experience letters on coloured letterhead if the logo or stamp matters. There is plenty of room in 500 KB for colour on one or two pages.
