SSC One-Time Registration (OTR): do it once, apply to every SSC exam
SSC's One-Time Registration (OTR) is a single profile on ssc.gov.in that you create once and then use for every SSC exam. Keep your Class 10 certificate, a working mobile number and email, and your Aadhaar number (or another photo ID) ready. Type your name, date of birth and parents' names exactly as they appear on the Class 10 certificate, and finish all four parts within 14 days, or SSC deletes what you saved. An OTR made on the old ssc.nic.in site no longer works, so register again on ssc.gov.in.

Do you need to do this now?
- You plan to sit any SSC exam (CGL, CHSL, MTS, GD, CPO, JE, Stenographer, Selection Post) in the next year. Once made on the new website, the OTR stays valid for every exam you apply to there. (para 9.2, p.11)
- You last registered on the old ssc.nic.in site. SSC says that OTR "will not be functional for the new website", so you need a new one. (para 9.2, p.11)
- Aadhaar or documents? Aadhaar is optional. If you use it, SSC won't reject your form only because the photo or signature is off, and you won't need extra photos at the exam centre. If you don't, you upload proofs of name, date of birth, address and gender plus a photograph, and on exam day you report two hours before the start. (Aadhaar Policy, p.1; para 9.3, p.11; para 14.7, p.24)
- Does your Aadhaar fingerprint or face authentication work? If it fails, SSC's advice is to update your Aadhaar biometrics at the nearest Aadhaar centre. Get that done before a form window opens. (SSC notice 01.07.2025, para 2)
- Did your name change after Class 10? The form has a separate place for it (Sl. No. 3a and 3b). Keep the gazette notification or other proof of the change. (Annexure-III para 6(d), p.43)
- The portal won't take your Class 10 board, roll number or year, or an OTP never arrives. Call the SSC helpdesk on 1800-309-3063 or email helpdesk-ssc (at) ssc.nic.in. SSC does not accept letters sent on paper about this. (SSC notice 08.10.2025, para 3)

The steps, in order
- 1
Open ssc.gov.in, click "Login or Register", then "Register Now"
Have ready: Your mobile, email, Aadhaar number (or another photo ID) and the Class 10 certificate.
Use ssc.gov.in, not the old ssc.nic.in site. (Annexure-III para 3-4, p.42)
- 2
Fill the personal details
Have ready: The Class 10 certificate itself, not your memory of it.
Name, date of birth, father's name and mother's name go in exactly as printed on your Class 10 certificate. Important fields such as the Aadhaar number, name and date of birth are typed twice, and a mismatch shows up in red. (Annexure-III para 6(a), 6(c)-(h), pp.42-43)
- 3
Verify your mobile and email by OTP
Have ready: Your phone and inbox open, and a pen.
After you save details 1 to 13, you confirm both by OTP. Your Registration Number appears on screen, and SSC sends it with a password to your phone and email. Write down the number and today's date: the 14-day clock starts now. (Annexure-III para 6(k)-(n), p.43)
- 4
Log in and change the password
Have ready: The Registration Number and the password SSC sent you.
The Registration Number is your username. Change the password when asked, then log in again with the new one. (Annexure-III para 6(o)-(q), pp.43-44)
- 5
Fill the additional details
Have ready: Your category, a visible identification mark, your disability certificate number if any, and both addresses.
Category, nationality, a visible identification mark (you may be asked to show it at later stages), disability if any, and your permanent and present address. (Annexure-III para 6(s)-(x), p.44)
- 6
Print the draft preview and read it slowly
Have ready: The Class 10 certificate next to the screen.
Compare each line with the certificate before you press Final Submit. (Annexure-III para 6(y), p.44)
- 7
Final Submit with one OTP
Have ready: Your phone and email both at hand.
SSC sends two OTPs, one to the phone and one to the email; enter either one. Then read the declaration and click "I Agree". (Annexure-III para 6(z)-(aa), p.44)
- 8
Apply for the exam from the same login
Have ready: The signature file (JPEG, 10-20 KB), a working webcam or phone camera, and UPI, net banking or a card for the fee.
Fields 1 to 18 of the exam form are filled in from your OTR and can't be changed inside the form. In the 2026 notices the form takes a live photo with your camera; you upload only the signature. Then pay the fee. (Annexure-IV para 1, 4, p.53; p.55)
Get the signature to 10-20 KB →
Live photo and signature: what the exam form wants
Photo: the form takes it live. Never point the camera at a printed photo; applications that capture an existing photo are rejected. Use good light, a plain background and the camera at eye level, with no cap, mask or glasses. If the laptop camera fails, the form shows a QR code for the Android app. (para 9.4-9.5, pp.11-12; Annexure-IV, p.53)
Signature: JPEG, 10 to 20 KB. SSC's 2024 instructions say most rejected signatures were "miniature", so sign large enough to fill at least 80% of the box. (para 9.6, p.12; SSC instructions 15.08.2024, p.1)
A note on the size: the notice body says "about 6.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)", while the form instructions in Annexure-IV of the same notice say "about 4.0 cm (width) x 2.0 cm (height)". The CGL 2026 notice carries the same two figures. Both say "about" and the KB range is the hard limit, so keep the file at 10 to 20 KB and the signature large and clear. (para 9.6, p.12; Annexure-IV para 1(b), p.53; CGL 2026 notice, pp.18 and 71)
Editing your OTR later
Log in and use the "Modify Registration" tab at the top left of the dashboard. (Annexure-IV para 4, p.53)
SSC has opened and closed the edit facility several times: until 31.05.2025, then 19 to 30 June 2025, then 14 to 31 August 2025. Its latest notice on this, dated 08.10.2025, says the edit facility is "available from 08.10.2025 onwards" with no end date. When we checked SSC's notice board on 7 October 2026 we found no later notice closing it. (SSC notices 09.05.2025, 17.06.2025 para 2, 13.08.2025 para 1, 08.10.2025 para 1)
Correct only real mistakes. SSC has said edits made without proper justification will be "seen as suspicious activity". (SSC notice 17.06.2025, para 3)
What goes wrong
Each line below comes from SSC's own notices. Read them once before you start.
- The 14-day limit runs out. If you save the basic details and don't finish, SSC deletes them and you start again. (Annexure-III para 6(n), p.43; 6(bb), p.44)
- A detail doesn't match Class 10. A wrong name, parent's name, date of birth or matric detail can get your candidature cancelled, and because SSC accepts every application only provisionally, a mismatch can surface at any later stage. (Annexure-III para 7-8, p.44; Annexure-IV, p.55)
- You lose the phone number or email. They are how you get your password and Registration Number back, so a borrowed phone or a cyber cafe's email locks you out later. (Annexure-III para 6(k)-(l), p.43)
- You rely on an old ssc.nic.in OTR. It doesn't carry over to ssc.gov.in. (para 9.2, p.11)
- You skip Aadhaar and arrive late. Without Aadhaar authentication you must report two hours before the exam starts, with two recent colour passport photos and an original photo ID that shows the same date of birth as the admission certificate. If the dates of birth don't match, you can't sit the exam. (para 14.7-14.8, pp.24-25)
Aadhaar, phone, visually impaired candidates, scribes
| If you are | What changes |
|---|---|
| With Aadhaar | OTP authentication at OTR, face authentication when you apply, fingerprint or iris at the exam. SSC does not store your Aadhaar number. (Aadhaar Policy, p.1) |
| Without Aadhaar | Upload proofs to finish the OTR: name (for example Voter ID, PAN or driving licence), date of birth (birth certificate or school leaving certificate), address (Voter ID, driving licence, bank statement with attested photo, rent agreement), gender, and a photograph. (para 24(d), pp.32-33; Annexure-III para 6(b), p.43) |
| Applying on a phone | The whole application can be done in the mySSC app. It needs Android 11 or higher, an Aadhaar-based OTR, and UIDAI's Aadhaar Face RD app installed for face authentication. (SSC notice 02.06.2025, paras 1-4) |
| Visually impaired candidates | You don't have to do Aadhaar face authentication when applying; you can verify by Aadhaar OTP instead. Biometric checks still happen at the exam. (note, p.33; SSC notice 08.10.2025, para 2) |
| Candidates with their own scribe | The scribe needs an OTR of their own, Aadhaar-authenticated, before they can be chosen as your scribe. (para 7.5(a), p.8; para 7.7(a), p.9) |

Tips and tricks
- 1Copy the Class 10 details letter by letter, including initials and spacing. If the certificate says "Md.", type "Md.", not "Mohammad".
- 2Make your OTR before an exam notice comes out. In the last days of a form window the site is under heavy load, and SSC says it isn't responsible if you can't log in then.
- 3Save the draft preview and the final application printout in one folder. SSC asks for the printout after the computer-based exam.
- 4If you register with Aadhaar, check that the mobile number linked to your Aadhaar gets OTPs before you start.
- 5Sign with a black pen on white paper and crop tight, so the signature fills the box.
Frequently asked questions
- Is SSC OTR the same for all exams?
- Yes. Once you generate an OTR on ssc.gov.in, it stays valid for every exam you apply for on the new website (CHSL 2026 notice, para 9.2, p.11).
- My OTR is from the old ssc.nic.in website. Does it still work?
- No. SSC says the earlier OTR generated on ssc.nic.in "will not be functional for the new website" (para 9.2, p.11). Register again on ssc.gov.in.
- How long do I have to finish the SSC OTR?
- 14 days from saving the basic details. After that, SSC deletes what you saved (Annexure-III para 6(n), p.43).
- Is Aadhaar compulsory for SSC registration?
- No. It's optional. Without it you upload proof documents for your name, date of birth, address and gender, plus a photograph (SSC Aadhaar Policy, p.1; CHSL 2026 notice, pp.32-33).
- How do I edit my SSC OTR?
- Log in and use the "Modify Registration" tab on the dashboard (Annexure-IV para 4, p.53). SSC's latest notice on this (08.10.2025) says the edit facility is available from that date onwards.
