SSC specifies ~6.0 cm × 2.0 cm, black ink on white; signature must fill ≥80% of the box. Operative limit: 10–20 KB JPG. Candidates are advised to cut the box and then sign within the box such that the signature occupies at least 80% of the box. SSC says the major reason for rejection is "miniature" signatures, so crop tight to the box before resizing. Over 20 KB? Crop away the white margin and lower the JPG quality; do not shrink the signature itself. Under 10 KB? Re-scan or re-photograph in good light instead of stretching a tiny image. Save as .jpg (not .png or .heic). The photo is taken live on the form, so if it is rejected, retake it against a plain background in a well-lit place. SSC lists caps, no shirt, dim light and blur as rejection reasons.

SSC CHSL 2026 eligibility, age limit and posts
As per the SSC Combined Higher Secondary (10+2) Level Examination, 2026 (Notice F. No. HQ-C1102/5/2026-C-1) (7 September 2026), checked on 30 October 2026.
Unlike CGL, CHSL has one age band for every post: 18 to 27. What changes from post to post is what you need to have studied and how fast you type. Everything below comes from the SSC notice of 7 September 2026, with the page number against each fact.
Applications for CHSL 2026 closed on 7 October 2026, and the fee deadline was 8 October. The correction window ran from 14 to 16 October and is now closed. SSC's notice of 1 October 2026 proposes the Tier-I computer-based exam from 30 November to 31 December 2026. Tier-II dates are not out yet. - ·SSC counts age on 1 August 2026 and turns it into a date-of-birth window: born on or after 2 August 1999 and on or before 1 August 2008. If you turn 27 exactly on 1 August 2026, you are out. (p4, para 5.1)
- ·SSC goes by the date of birth in your Class 10 certificate. It can't be changed after you apply. (p5, para 5.3)
- ·Relaxation only raises the upper age limit. The notice has no code 07 and no EWS relaxation. Sons, daughters and dependants of ex-servicemen get no relaxation. (p4, para 5.2; p6, para 5.10)
- ·Your SC/ST/OBC/PwBD/ESM status is judged on the closing date, 7 October 2026, and OBC candidates must be outside the creamy layer on that date. (p7, para 6.4-6.5)

You need to have passed Class 12 from a recognised board. Data Entry Operator posts in four offices ask for more: Class 12 in the Science stream with Maths. The qualification cut-off is 7 October 2026, the last day to apply. Age is counted on a different date, 1 August.
- Data Entry Operator and DEO Grade 'A' in the Ministry of Consumer Affairs, Food & Public Distribution, the Staff Selection Commission and the Ministry of Culture
- Class 12 pass in the Science stream with Mathematics as a subject, from a recognised board or equivalent. (p10, para 8.1)
- LDC/JSA and all other DEO and DEO Grade 'A' posts
- Class 12 or an equivalent exam passed from a recognised board or university. (p10, para 8.2)
Nationality: Citizen of India, a subject of Nepal or Bhutan, or a person of Indian origin who migrated from one of the countries the notice lists. The last three need a certificate of eligibility from the Government of India. (p3, para 4.1-4.2)
- ·If you have taken your Class 12 exam and are waiting for the result, you can apply. But the board has to declare the result by 7 October 2026. A result that is still being processed on that date doesn't count. (p10-11, para 8.3 and 8.6)
- ·If your qualification is an equivalent one, bring an equivalence certificate to document verification. (p11, para 8.7)
- ·Only men are eligible for any Border Roads Organisation (BRO) vacancies. LDC in BRO also has physical and medical standards (Annexure-XVI). (p3-4, para 4.3-4.4)
Posts, pay level and age band
The notice lists DEO at both Level 4 and Level 5 without saying which office pays which. The figures are basic pay only; take-home pay adds DA and HRA, and HRA depends on the city you're posted to. Tier-II includes a skill test. LDC/JSA candidates take a 10-minute typing test at 35 words a minute in English or 30 in Hindi. DEO candidates take a 15-minute skill test at 8,000 key depressions an hour (15,000 for the four offices named in the qualification rules). If you then fail that post's physical, medical or education standard, your candidature is rejected, so rank a post high only if you meet its standards. (p1-2, Note-I)

About the SSC CHSL application form
The SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level Examination is conducted by the Staff Selection Commission. The online application portal has strict requirements for photo and signature uploads — images outside the specified dimensions or file size are automatically rejected.
The photograph is captured live by the online application (or the authority's app) — you don't upload or resize a photo. The signature should be about 140×60 pixels and between 10 and 20 KB in black ink.
Common reasons SSC CHSL forms get rejected
- A live photo that breaks the photo rules in the notice.
- Live photo taken against a background the notice does not allow.
- A cap or mask in the live photo.
- Live photo too dark or blurred.
- Wrong file format. The notice asks for JPG.
- Signature on lined or coloured paper instead of plain white.
Tips and tricks for the SSC CHSL upload
- 1Draw a box about 6 cm wide and 2 cm high on plain white paper and sign inside it in black ink. SSC wants the signature to cover at least 80% of the box.
- 2Crop right up to the edge of the box before you resize. A wide white margin makes the ink look tiny at about 140×60 pixels, and SSC rejects "miniature" signatures.
- 3Over 20 KB? Lower the JPG quality; don't shrink the signature. Under 10 KB? Scan or photograph it again in daylight instead of stretching a small image.
- 4Phones often save as .heic or .png. Check that the file name ends in .jpg before you upload it to the SSC CHSL form.
- 5For the live photo, face a plain wall in good light, wear a shirt, and take off any cap, mask or glasses. SSC lists caps, no shirt, dim light and blur as reasons it rejects photos.
