Documents a scholarship form usually asks for

The list depends on the scheme, but on the National Scholarship Portal (NSP) and most state portals it is drawn from these:

marksheet of the last exam you passed
income certificate of the family, from the tehsil or e-District portal
caste certificate, for SC, ST, OBC and minority schemes
domicile or residence certificate, for state schemes
fee receipt and a bonafide or study certificate from the institute
first page of your bank passbook
Aadhaar card

Read your scheme's own list before you start. It takes two minutes and stops you from attesting documents nobody asked for.

Who looks at your uploads

On NSP, your own institute verifies the application first, then it goes to the district or state level, depending on the scheme. The institute checks your scans against your originals. A blurred scan or a stamp sitting on the income figure is the kind of thing that gets an application sent back to you, often close to the deadline.

Before you upload, open each stamped file at full size and read the important line: the income amount, the caste, the marks, the account number. If you can read it easily, so can the verifier.

The bank passbook page

Use the first page, the one with your name, account number, IFSC and branch printed on it. Scholarship money is paid into this account, so the name and number on the passbook have to match what you typed in the form. Put the stamp in a blank corner and keep it off the account number and IFSC.

College admission and counselling

Admission and counselling portals ask for scans of the same kinds of documents: marksheets, category certificate, domicile, transfer and migration certificates. At physical reporting, the college usually wants the originals plus a set of self-attested photocopies. Attest the paper set by hand the same way, with the same signature and date, so it matches what you uploaded.

Certificates that arrive as PDFs

Income and caste certificates from e-District portals and marksheets from DigiLocker usually come as PDFs. This tool takes images, so take a screenshot of the page or export it as JPG first. If the form wants several pages in one file, stamp each page and join them with the Image to PDF tool. For a PDF that is only too big, the PDF compressor brings it under the limit.
