For the UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination, the photo should be about 350×350 pixels, 20–200 KB, in JPG format on a white background. The signature should be about 350×350 pixels and 20–100 KB. Resize yours with the tool above. It's free and runs in your browser, so nothing is uploaded.
The notice gives a range or a physical size, not one exact pixel size. Treat these dimensions as a target and check the notes and the quoted notice text below.
UPSC asks for two photos in the Common Application Form. First, upload a scanned passport photo: JPG, 20 to 200 KB, on a plain white background. Then take a live photo with your webcam or phone inside the form. The CMS notice asks for both photos to be clear and to follow the photo instructions on upsconline.nic.in. Resize the uploaded photo here. These sizes come from the CMS 2026 notice; UPSC's calendar puts the 2027 notice on 3 March 2027, so check its Appendix-II when it comes out.

Sign three times, one below the other, in black ink on plain white paper. Scan the page as one JPG of 20 to 100 KB. All three signatures need to be clear and easy to read.

About the UPSC CMS application form
The UPSC Combined Medical Services Examination is conducted by the Union Public Service Commission. The online application portal has strict requirements for photo and signature uploads — images outside the specified dimensions or file size are automatically rejected.
For the photograph, you need a colour image of about 350×350 pixels with file size between 20 KB and 200 KB, saved in JPG format with a white background. The signature should be about 350×350 pixels and between 20 and 100 KB.
Common reasons UPSC CMS forms get rejected
- File size over 200 KB (most common — phone photos are often 2–5 MB).
- Dimensions far from about 350×350 pixels.
- Coloured or patterned background — the form asks for a plain white background.
- Wrong file format. The notice asks for JPG.
- Signature on lined or coloured paper instead of plain white.
Tips and tricks for the UPSC CMS upload
- 1UPSC asks for two photos: a scanned passport photo you upload (JPG, 20 to 200 KB) and a live photo you take in the form. Take both on the same day so they look alike.
- 2Sign three times on plain white paper in black ink, one below the other, and scan the whole page as one JPG of 20 to 100 KB.
- 3Each file has a 20 KB floor. If the resizer gives you less, raise the quality rather than upload a tiny file.
- 4Women, SC, ST and PwBD candidates pay no fee; everyone else pays Rs 200.
- 5Final-year MBBS students can apply, but their entry stays provisional until they show proof of passing the written and practical parts.
