The notice gives a range or a physical size, not one exact pixel size. Treat these dimensions as a target and check the notes and the quoted notice text below.

NTA gives no pixel size, only 10 to 200 KB as a JPG/JPEG. Use a recent photo, in colour or black and white, on a white background, with your face (ears showing, no mask) filling about 80% of it. You also take a live photo while filling the form, so the scanned upload is needed as well. The December 2026 form is open from 8 to 28 October 2026 (late fee of Rs 500 up to 31 October).

JPG/JPEG, 10 to 50 KB, clearly legible. NTA gives no pixel size; about 140 x 60 px in black ink on white paper keeps it sharp and well under the cap.

About the UGC NET application form

The UGC National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) December 2026 is conducted by the National Testing Agency. The online application portal has strict requirements for photo and signature uploads — images outside the specified dimensions or file size are automatically rejected.

For the photograph, you need a colour image of about 200×230 pixels with file size between 10 KB and 200 KB, saved in JPG format with a white background. The signature should be about 140×60 pixels and between 10 and 50 KB.

Common reasons UGC NET forms get rejected

  • File size over 200 KB (most common — phone photos are often 2–5 MB).
  • Dimensions far from about 200×230 pixels.
  • Coloured or patterned background — the form asks for a plain white background.
  • Wrong file format. The notice asks for JPG.
  • Signature on lined or coloured paper instead of plain white.

Tips and tricks for the UGC NET upload

  1. 1You need two photos for UGC NET. The form takes a live photo through your webcam or phone, and it also asks for a scanned photo file of 10 to 200 KB.
  2. 2For the scanned photo, NTA accepts colour or black and white, but the background must be white and your face, with both ears showing and no mask, should fill about 80% of the frame.
  3. 3For the live photo, sit against a light-coloured wall in good light. No webcam on your laptop? Scan the QR code on the form with your phone and take the photo there.
  4. 4The signature cap is 50 KB, much lower than the photo's. If your scan comes out bigger, lower the JPG quality rather than shrinking the signature.
  5. 5Print a few copies of the same photo you upload. NTA asks you to bring one to the exam centre, and it must match the one on your form.
