RRB takes your photo live inside the application form, with a webcam or your phone's front camera, so there is no photo file to upload. Stand against a plain, pure white background with nothing behind you, and wear non-white clothes, ideally plain and dark, that cover your shoulders and chest. Your head should take up at least half the photo, nothing below the chest should be in frame, and your eyes must be fully open. No cap, mask or glasses, and no shade or glare on your face. Photographing a printed or on-screen photo gets the application rejected outright.
The notice gives a range or a physical size, not one exact pixel size. Treat these dimensions as a target and check the notes and the quoted notice text below.
Sign in BLACK ink on plain white paper in running handwriting (cursive/joined letters) — NOT in BLOCK, CAPITAL or disjointed letters (capital-letter signatures are rejected). Scan at ≥100 DPI; 140×60 px is the MINIMUM dimension; position the signature centred within a 35 mm × 20 mm scan box. The same signature must be used at every later stage (CBT/DV/ME). Upload problems: the file must be 30–49 KB, so both too small and too large fail. Under 30 KB? Scan at a higher DPI or save at higher JPG quality; do not upscale a tiny crop. Over 49 KB? Lower the JPG quality, keeping at least 140×60 px. JPG/JPEG only. The photo is captured live (webcam, or phone front camera by scanning the QR code on the form); you can preview and retake it until the application is submitted. Graduate CEN 06/2026: apply from 8 October to 6 November 2026 (11:59 PM); the fee can be paid until 8 November. Under Graduate CEN 07/2026: apply from 15 October to 13 November 2026 (11:59 PM) and pay the fee by 15 November. Both notices have the same live photo and signature rules.

About the RRB NTPC application form
The Railway Recruitment Board Non-Technical Popular Categories is conducted by the Railway Recruitment Board. The online application portal has strict requirements for photo and signature uploads — images outside the specified dimensions or file size are automatically rejected.
The photograph is captured live by the online application (or the authority's app) — you don't upload or resize a photo. The signature should be about 140×60 pixels and between 30 and 49 KB on plain white paper in black ink.
Common reasons RRB NTPC forms get rejected
- A live photo that breaks the photo rules in the notice.
- Live photo taken against a background the notice does not allow.
- A cap or mask in the live photo.
- Wrong file format. The notice asks for JPG.
- Signature on lined or coloured paper instead of plain white.
Tips and tricks for the RRB NTPC upload
- 1Sign in your running, joined-up handwriting. RRB rejects signatures in capital, block or separated letters.
- 2Use black ink on plain white paper and keep the signature centred in a box of about 35 mm × 20 mm when you scan it, at 100 DPI or more.
- 3The file has to be 30 to 49 KB, so a small file fails as well as a big one. Under 30 KB? Scan at a higher DPI or save at a higher JPG quality. 140×60 pixels is the smallest size allowed, so don't go below it.
- 4For the live photo, wear dark, non-white clothes and stand against a plain white wall. A white shirt against a white wall blends in.
- 5Never point the camera at a printed photo or a phone screen. RRB rejects those applications outright.
- 6Keep the paper you signed on. You must use the same signature at every later stage: the CBT, document verification and the medical.
