Duplicate marksheet or certificate: the application letter

Quick answer

UP Board: apply online on the Board's Janhit Guarantee portal (janhit.upmsp.edu.in), yourself or through a Jan Seva Kendra or the e-District portal. For a duplicate marksheet you upload three things: an application countersigned by your school principal, a Rs 100 treasury challan and an ID proof. A duplicate certificate costs Rs 200 and also needs the Board's prescribed affidavit and a newspaper cutting that reports the certificate lost. The Board gives itself 30 days to issue either one.

CBSE: no letter. Apply on CBSE's Duplicate Academic Document System (DADS). The fee depends on how long ago you passed: Rs 250 within 5 years, rising in steps to Rs 2,000 after 20 years.

Fill in the form below and the UP Board application comes out ready for your principal to sign. Nothing you type leaves your browser.

Our draft letter. UP Board asks for an application countersigned by your principal but prints no format for it, so the wording is ours. What it asks for comes from the Board's own service pages, linked at the end.

This is a format, not legal advice. The Board has the final word on what it accepts.

Our draft letter

To, The Additional Secretary, Regional Office, Madhyamik Shiksha Parishad, Uttar Pradesh (through the Principal, __________, __________)

Subject: Application for a duplicate marksheet of the High School Examination __________, roll no. __________

Sir/Madam,

I, __________, son/daughter of __________ and __________, passed the High School Examination __________ of the Board from __________, __________, district __________, with roll no. __________.

My original marksheet has been lost. I request you to issue a duplicate marksheet.

I am attaching the documents the Board asks for:

  1. Treasury challan for Rs 100 (duplicate marksheet)
  2. ID proof (Aadhaar card, voter ID or another ID)

The details above are true to the best of my knowledge.

Yours faithfully,

(Signature) __________ Address: __________ Mobile: __________ Date: 02.11.2026

Forwarded and countersigned. (Signature and seal of the Principal) __________

The letter says "Regional Office". Your school office knows which of the five regional offices it comes under.

What to upload on the portal

  1. Application countersigned by your school principal (the letter on this page)
  2. Treasury challan for Rs 100 (duplicate marksheet)
  3. ID proof (Aadhaar card, voter ID or another ID)

Challan head, as the Board writes it:

0202-शिक्षा, खेल, कला और संस्कृति 01-सामान्य शिक्षा 102-माध्यमिक शिक्षा 02-बोर्ड परीक्षाओं का शुल्क

Fee and time

  • Duplicate marksheet: Rs 100 by treasury challan, plus the countersigned application and an ID proof.
  • The Board sets 30 days from the date of application to issue either one.
Apply on the UP Board Janhit Guarantee portal

UP Board, step by step

  1. Print the letter, sign it and take it to your school. The principal signs and stamps the "Forwarded" block at the bottom.
  2. Pay the treasury challan: Rs 100 for a marksheet, Rs 200 for a certificate, under the challan head shown with the checklist. Keep the challan, because you upload it. The Board doesn't say whether to pay online or at the bank, so ask your school office if you're unsure.
  3. Certificate only: get a loss notice printed in a newspaper and get the Board's prescribed affidavit made. The Board's pages don't print the affidavit format, so ask your school or the regional office for it. Keep the newspaper page.
  4. Register on janhit.upmsp.edu.in. To register you need a mobile number, an email ID and an ID (Aadhaar, voter ID or another). The Board sends an OTP and gives you a registration number.
  5. Pick the service (duplicate marksheet or duplicate certificate) and upload the scans from the checklist.
  6. Track it under "कार्यवाही की स्थिति" (status) on the same portal. The Board sets 30 days from the date of application to issue either one.
  7. If 30 days pass with nothing, the Board's table allows a first appeal and then a second appeal, 15 days each. The first appellate officer is the Secretary of the Board in Prayagraj; the second is the Director of Education (Secondary), who is also the Board's Chairman.

Officers' list (UP Board PDF)

Who the letter goes to

The Board's list names the Additional Secretaries of its five regional offices (Varanasi, Gorakhpur, Meerut, Bareilly and Prayagraj) as the officers who forward and sanction these requests. Your school office knows which one it comes under.

Tips

  • Scan each upload as a clear PDF or JPG. The Board's pages don't state a size limit, so keep files small and readable.
  • Write your name and your parents' names exactly as they appear on the original, even if a spelling is wrong. A duplicate copies the Board's record; fixing a spelling is a separate correction service that asks for different papers.
  • If you lost the marksheet along with an admit card or other papers, file a police report too with our lost-document letter. UP Board doesn't list a police report for a duplicate, but an employer or another office may ask for one later.
  • Keep a scan of everything you upload, and your registration number, in one folder. If you have to appeal, you will need them.
