The steps, in order
- 1
Check the class, date of birth window and category
Have ready: The birth certificate and the parent's service details, if any.
Match the date of birth to the class window, then decide the category (JCO/OR, officer, killed in action, civilian) and the reservation (SC, ST, OBC non-creamy layer; OBC creamy layer applies as General). Class, gender, date of birth and category cannot be changed after you submit. (Ch.3, paras 3-4, p.8; Ch.5, paras 14-19, p.18)
- 2
Scan the documents to PDF, 50-300 KB each
Have ready: Birth certificate, domicile certificate (the child's or a parent's), SC/ST certificate if applicable, service certificate if a parent's posting makes you choose a centre outside your domicile state.
Each certificate is uploaded as a PDF between 50 KB and 300 KB. If the child has no domicile certificate, the parent's may be uploaded; proof for the child is then needed at admission. (Ch.5, paras 22-29, pp.18-19; 41.3, p.20; 41.4.4, p.22)
Compress a PDF to under 300 KB → - 3
Prepare the photo, signature and left thumb impression
Have ready: A colour photo taken on or after 1 July 2026, white paper, a black pen and a blue ink pad.
Photo: JPG, 10-200 KB, about 80% face with both ears visible, white background, no cap or goggles, preferably with the name and date of the photo. Signature: the full signature in running hand (not capitals), black ink on white paper, JPG 10-50 KB. Left thumb impression in blue ink on white paper, JPG 10-50 KB. (Ch.5, para 41.4.1-41.4.3, pp.20-21)
Resize the photo to the RMS CET preset → - 4
Register on the NTA site (Step 1)
Have ready: An email ID and mobile number of the candidate or a parent (both verified by OTP), a valid government photo ID.
Register on exams.nta.nic.in/rmscet/ and note the registration number. Enter names exactly as in school records and the date of birth as dd/mm/yyyy. Uploading a government photo ID is compulsory. Submit only one application. (Ch.5, paras 10-12, 25, 32, pp.17-19; 41.1, p.20)
- 5
Fill the form, choose cities and the hospital (Step 2)
Have ready: Up to four exam cities in your permanent or present state, and the military hospital you want for the medical.
Complete the form and upload everything. Exam cities are limited to the state of your permanent or present address. Select the hospital for the medical examination during registration; it cannot be changed later. (Ch.4, para 19, p.12; Ch.5, para 13, p.18; Ch.3, para 10, p.10)
- 6
Pay the fee and print the Confirmation Page (Step 3)
Have ready: A debit or credit card, net banking or UPI.
Rs.1,000 for General, OBC and OBC (NCL); Rs.750 for SC, ST and wards of personnel killed in action; bank charges extra. Money leaving your account is not proof: only the Confirmation Page is. If the status is not OK, pay again. Keep at least four printouts. (Ch.2, p.6; Ch.5, paras 37-40, pp.19-20; 41.5, p.22; 43.9.1, p.25)
- 7
Use the correction window if something is wrong
Have ready: Your application number and password.
Specified fields can be corrected online on 27-28 October 2026 only. No request is taken after the window closes. (Ch.5, para 52, p.25)
- 8
Download the city slip and admit card
Have ready: Login details and the photo ID named on the form.
The city intimation slip comes 12-15 days before the exam and the admit card 5-7 days before it, only on the NTA site. Carry the admit card and one identity proof to the centre. (Ch.11, p.39; Ch.4, para 11, p.12)

- No signature uploaded, or an unclear left thumb impression. (Ch.5, para 41.4.2.3, 41.4.3, p.21)

- More than one application for the same candidate. (Ch.5, para 11, p.17)

Tips and tricks
- 1The bulletin says "without spectacles" in one place and "spectacles only if used regularly" in another. Take the photo without glasses and you meet both.
- 2Check who issued the birth certificate before anything else. One from a Gram Panchayat is refused, so you need one from a Municipal Corporation or an authorised local government body.
- 3Use a parent's email and mobile you will still have in March 2027: the medical and interview call letters go there, and the contact details cannot be changed later.
- 4Print six to eight copies of the same photo you upload. The bulletin asks you to keep them for later stages.
- 5Pay before 20 October even if the form is ready earlier. The late window costs Rs.500 more.
